About me

On 1 March 2014, I had the fantastic opportunity to purchase the part of Hundskolan that offers courses, camps, private lessons, events and problem dog consultations. Ulrika C Månsson retains the company’s vocational training, lectures, coat care and exhibition training in her parent company Skövde Hundskola. We created an opportunity for an energetic collaboration between these two parts, which have grown even stronger individually! On 1 July 2015, the company name was changed to Hundskolorna (The Dog Schools) to avoid confusion with Skövde Hundskola.

In 2022, the company was updated to Devoted Dog Sweden AB.

In autumn 2011, I came into contact with Hundskolan in Skövde through lectures and felt that they had the approach to dog training that I wanted. In 2012-2013, I took the instructor training course and became an approved IMMI instructor, now H-marked by Sveriges Hundföretagare (Swedish Dog Entrepreneurs). After that, I continued with the game tracking and rally obedience instructor training courses. It was so much fun to train dogs and teach others how to train dogs! To gain an even deeper understanding of our canine friends, I also trained as a dog behaviourist. I learned the basics of positive learning at Hundens Hus in Gothenburg when I trained my Welsh Corgi to be a therapy dog.

I then went on to do further training in specialised searching for bedbugs, SNWK NoseWork instructor, and Hoopers instructor.

I am a person with a great personal commitment to whatever I do! I am passionate about helping others, am humble, curious and try to see every new challenge as something I want to accomplish and add to my backpack of experiences. I love everything to do with learning and have a keen interest in various dog sports, training and competition.

Since 2020, I have also been a breeder of the Miniature American Shepherd breed.

I live with my husband Jonas and our son Kasper in Vartofta outside Falköping.

My dogs

I have had pets since I was a child – cats, rabbits and hamsters – and I was also a girl who spent her teenage years in the stable. However, I never got a dog, even though it was at the top of my wish list. But as soon as I moved out of home, I bought my first dog, Nalle, who was a Japanese Spitz. My next dog was Tuffy, who was also a Japanese Spitz. Then I got an Irish Setter named Acke. I met my husband Jonas when we were training our dogs at the dog club, and he had Timmy, a Golden Retriever. After that, I had three Welsh Springer Spaniels: Cocos, who became a successful and well-known therapy dog/reading dog, Keso, and Tzatziki. After that, I switched to the Miniature American Shepherd breed – MAS – and that is the breed for me today. They are eager to learn, alert and smart herding dogs of just the right size. First, I had the fantastic Kanel, with whom I successfully competed in agility and trained in canicross, K9 Biathlon, rally obedience and special search and rescue training. Sadly, Kanel tragically passed away in 2019. Now I have Vanilj, a MAS, whom I am training in agility, rally obedience, nose work and hoopers. She is the foundation of my own breeding programme at Kennel Sage Brand. After her, I kept the bitch Hallon, who is trained and competes in agility, rally obedience, nose work, hoopers and game tracking.

I like working on attitude with my dogs and use play as a learning tool a lot. I took a competition obedience course with Siv Svendsen when Kanel was only 5 months old and have also taken a footwork course for Game on Puppy. Teaching puppy classes is the best thing I know, but the most rewarding and demanding courses are the ‘Best Start’ courses. I also love everything to do with nose activation, so naturally I enjoy running courses in nose work, game tracking and chanterelle searching. Rally obedience is also very close to my heart as it promotes cooperation and joy.

In addition to training various elements that are part of the therapy dog job, I train a lot of tricks and skills and different forms of activation at home. In addition, there is game tracking, rally obedience, dog parkour, nose work and agility.
Currently competing with Cocos in rally obedience continuation class. We have big plans for Kanel 🙂 Our goal is to make it to the Swedish Agility Championships in a few years, so that’s what we train for the most, but we also train in rally obedience and obedience with a focus on joy and attitude. We have passed the scent test in nosework and are aiming for the aptitude test in game tracking.

Work tasks at Hundskolorna

As the owner, I am responsible for virtually all administration, course registrations and marketing within the company, and I am the one who answers the phone at Hundskolorna. I also create new courses and new directions for our business.

I work as an instructor, rally obedience instructor, game tracking instructor, nose work instructor, chanterelle search instructor, hoopers instructor and dog psychologist.

Experience

I have taken many courses with my dogs – puppy and basic courses, lots of agility courses, as well as courses in freestyle, rally obedience, tracking, nose work, obedience, etc.
