This course is intended for anyone who has completed a puppy training course and hopes to eventually compete with their dog in obedience, rally obedience, agility, nose work, or freestyle. It’s also suitable for those who have previous experience training with positive methods and now have a new little star to train.

Maria Brandel, author of the very popular book *From Puppy to Star*, has written a book on creating the best possible start. The course is for those who want to build that bond between you and your dog—the connection, the team, the bubble—where your dog wants to train and asks to train with you. The course is primarily designed for future dog sports, but it’s also for those who aren’t sure if they plan to compete but still want that special connection. We prepare the dog through distraction training, passivity training, shaping, and the “on” and “off” cues. We train basic obedience using plenty of clicker training and play.

We develop simple training plans, identify the dog’s best rewards, and work on voluntary behaviors. We foster a love of training through play—which is so important and fun—as well as basic movements and positions. To ensure the highest quality, we limit this course to a maximum of 6 teams. We practice the basics on courses based on the book’s theme, which means your puppy or young dog will already be learning to perform multiple commands in a row.
